How Drones Work

The history of drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), traces back to early 20th-century innovations in military technology. Initially developed for reconnaissance and surveillance during wartime, drones evolved significantly over the decades. They gained prominence during World War II for target practice and evolved into sophisticated tools for intelligence gathering during the Cold War. By the late 20th century, advancements in miniaturization, propulsion systems, and computing paved the way for civilian and commercial applications in fields like agriculture, infrastructure inspection, and filmmaking. Today, drones stand at the forefront of technological innovation, reshaping industries and raising new ethical and regulatory challenges.


How they work


Drones achieve flight through a combination of aerodynamic principles and advanced technology. Like regular commercial aircraft, they generate lift through propellers or wings, powered by electric motors or combustion engines. Control is created and maintained using onboard sensors and gyroscopes, which adjust orientation based on user commands or pre-programmed routes.  These are tools and instruments that help guide the plane.
